Durant’s Olio Nuovo Festival is back in 2021 and this year we are celebrating all November long! For the safety of guests and staff, we have expanded our three-day festival to a month-long celebration.  Taste and purchase this season’s freshly milled Olio Nuovo (new oil) extra virgin olive oil and take a tour of the Durant Olive Mill to see how premium olive oil is made at Oregon’s only commercial olive mill.  

Find holiday inspiration at the Red Ridge Farms Nursery – filled with natural greens for decorating/crafting, artisan-made wreaths, one-of-a-kind pottery, and unique growing gifts.  The Gift Shop has been doubled in size to fit even more Durant olive oil, wine, culinary goods, gift boxes, local food, art, cookbooks, houseplants, holiday decor, and so much more!  

Festival Schedule:

10 AM – 4 PM: Olio Nuovo Tasting Bar

Experience the distinct flavors of freshly milled extra virgin olive oil by tasting at our hands-free, open-air olive oil tasting bar.  Try each olive variety, side by side, exploring the unique flavor characteristics found in the various olive cultivars.  Get cooking and pairing advice from our team of educated team members and shop our selection of olio nuovo evoo – from small gift bottles to full gallon sizes.

10 AM or 2 PM: Olive Mill Tours

Experience the only Olioteca in Oregon, Durant Olive Mill. This daily guided tour offers a succinct history of our farm, an exploration into growing olives in the NW, and a guided look at the process of making award-winning extra virgin olive oil. You may even catch a glimpse of the mill in operation and be able to taste fresh olio still warm from the mill! This tour is leisurely and will conclude with a casual olio nuovo extra virgin olive oil tasting in the Red Ridge Farms Gift Shop.

6 – 8 PM: Fresh Pasta Making with Leta Merrill

Join Leta Merrill, chef and pasta maker for an evening of mixing, rolling, shaping, and eating delicious handmade pasta! Leta was first immersed in the world of handmade pasta when she landed a job at Union Square Café in New York City. Her study of pasta broadened over the years as she connected with other pasta enthusiasts all over the globe. She began teaching pasta workshops in 2018, and couldn’t be more thrilled to be able to host in-person events once again. With a passion for local ingredients, quality flour, and a nod to the preservation of traditional methods and techniques, Leta is thrilled to bring her love of pasta to others.

Together we’ll explore the hand-formed pasta tradition of Southern Italy. This hands-on experience will include everything from the mixing of dough to shaping, storing, and cooking pasta. Guests will then be treated to a pasta dinner prepared by Leta featuring Durant Olive Mill’s Olio Nuovo and other local and seasonal ingredients. Guests will leave with their own freshly made pasta, dough and sauce recipes, and their chins dripping with Durant’s brilliant Olio Nuovo.
