St.Joseph Maronite Catholic Church was founded in 1927 by the many Lebanese immigrants that settled in the Waterville area beginning in the 1890s. The church is located on the corner of Appleton and Front Street in Waterville. Masses are held Saturday at 4 p.m. and Sunday at 10:00 a.m., weekdays Tuesday through Friday at 9:00 a.m. Confessions are heard one half hour before Mass and by appointment. The clergy are Father James Doran and Subdeacon Stephan Crate.

The Catholic Church are made up of serveral churches, Eastern and Western. They are equal in dignity. Most Catholics belong to the Western Church, commonly referred to as Roman Catholics whose litigical rituals are from the Latin tradtions. The Maronites are Catholics, belonging to the Eastern Church whose litigical rituals are from Antioch and Edessa. What makes the various Eastern and Western Churces Catholic is their union with the Bishop of Rome. He is the visable head of our Maronite Church, as well as, the Latin (Roman) Church. We all have the same Mysteries (Sacraments) and the same faith. This means you may receive the Sacraments here, fulfill your Sunday Obligation, and join this parish, even though you may be of the Latin (Roman) Tradition or one of the other Eastern Churches. St. Joseph Maronite Catholic Church is the only Maronite Church in Maine.
